Artist residency at the Bravo! festival
The 2026 Bravo! festival will feature an artist residency in collaboration with the Caisa Cultural Center. Artists Satu Tani and Maima Tani will be working at the residency. During their residency, they will develop forms of performing arts for children and young people in their own work. The public will have the opportunity to peek into the residency during two informal work-in-progress sessions – more information and schedules coming in February!
Satu and Maima Tani are sisters and artistic partners. Satu works in various roles in the field of supported art and has a higher polytechnic degree in visual arts. Maima is a graduate of the Invalidiopisto school of arts and crafts and has been creating visual art since childhood. When Maima is not crocheting giant jellyfish or drawing her extremely precise works, she collaborates with Satu on performance art and short films, among other things. Together, the Tanis explore art, communication, and different modes of being in the world. Both belong to the neuro-minority and work in Helsinki.
The residency is part of the international Shifting the Stage project
The Bravo! festival produced by Assitej Finland, the bibu festival owned by Assitej Sweden and Teatercentrum, Imaginate Edinburgh International Theatre Festival, and the Norwegian Showbox festival have launched a joint project in which the festivals commit to providing performance opportunities and supporting the artistic work of disabled and minority artists. The project offers financial support, residency spaces, professional guidance, and networking opportunities for the artists involved in the project.
